後醍醐天皇
ごだいごてんのう【後醍醐天皇】
(1288-1339) 第九六代天皇(在位 1318-1339)。 名は尊治。 後宇多天皇の皇子。 親政を企てて正中の変・元弘の変に敗れ, 隠岐に流された。 1333年脱出し, 新田義貞・足利尊氏らの支援で鎌倉幕府を滅ぼして建武新政権を樹立。 のち公武の不和から親政は失敗し, 尊氏らも離反, 36年吉野に移り南朝を立てた。
